Where do you look for magazine articles?
Use the library magazine databases to find articles for school
projects and papers (see list of databases to the right).
The best time to use the magazine databases is when your topic is
something current that is still in the news. Remember: even though you
are accessing the articles online, they count as magazine sources, not
internet sources.
You have several databases to choose from. Once you have chosen a
specific database, you can do a keyword search. Always remember to
click in the full text box on the search page, so that all of your results will be entire
articles (rather than just a short description of the articles).
Here is an example of a keyword search:
- You
need to do a paper on school violence in the United States.
- In the
search box, type in school violence AND United States (Using
quotation marks and the word AND tells the database exactly what you
are looking for.)
- If you
dont like the results you get on your first try, remember to use
synonyms or try to make your search simpler (in this case, for
example, you could leave out United States on your second search).
- Once
you get a list of results, just click on the titles to get to the
articles. You can read them, print them, or email them to yourself
for later. When you print or email them, you will have all of the
information that you need for your citations (such as the name of
the magazine, the title of the article, the date of the article, the
page numbers, etc.)
